Arlington VA Homes for Sale

The city of Arlington situated in the Commonwealth of Virginia is located just across the Potomac River from Washington DC. Its history dates back to 1801 when it was originally founded as Alexandria County. The general Assembly of Virginia changed its name to “Arlington County” in 1920 to avoid confusion with Alexandria that had become an independent city in 1870.

Today Arlington VA is the smallest self-governing county in the United States with a land area of 26 square miles (67 km2). The American Podiatric Medical Association ranked Arlington first as the most walkable cities in the United States in 2005 while in 2006 it was ranked the most educated city by CNN Money with 35.7% of its residents holding a graduate degree. The recent recognitions include the Best Places for the Rich and Single awarded in 2009 by CNN Money and in June 2010 as the Best City for Families in the country by the Parenting magazine.
